Custard cream is, in my opinion, one of the top creams in Italian pastry. Simple to prepare yet very tasty and full of flavor even though very few ingredients are used.
You can prepare it with ingredients that most people have at home, namely milk, flour, eggs, sugar, and you can also add the flavors you like best! In this case, I simply used a packet of vanilla powder to give more aroma to the cream, I did not use either vanilla bean or grated lemon peel and I must say the result is excellent! Really delicious!
You can use it as a filling for cakes, profiteroles, or as a pudding! 🙂
You will surely love it as I did from the moment I tasted it! If you want, you can try it as a filling for:
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Very cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Cooking methods: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients for preparing custard cream
- 4 Egg yolks
- 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
- 2 cups Whole milk
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 packet Vanilla powder
Tools
- Pot
- Whisk
Steps for making custard cream
To prepare custard cream, start by working the 4 egg yolks with the sugar in a saucepan using a whisk. Then add the all-purpose flour and continue to mix until the mixture is smooth.
In another pot, heat the milk, and when it reaches a boil, turn off the heat and add it a little at a time to the saucepan which now must be placed on low heat. I then added a packet of vanilla powder and continued to mix the cream with the whisk until it was well combined and thick. It will take about 7/8 minutes.
Your custard cream is ready!
Storage and Tips
You can store custard cream in the fridge for 4 or 5 days in a glass jar or airtight container.
You can add vanilla bean or lemon peel instead of the vanilla powder packet according to your taste.
