Simple Sesame Glazed Tofu Recipe

A recipe from Vegolosi that I tried a while ago with my own variations and made it again and again.

Ingredients for Sesame Glazed Tofu

  • 7 oz tofu
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (tamari)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp umeboshi vinegar
  • 2 tbsp gluten-free rice malt
  • 1 pinch chili pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Preparation of Sesame Glazed Tofu

  • First, press the tofu block well between two sheets of kitchen paper, press it well to release water.

  • Cut it into cubes and boil for five minutes. Pat it dry again and coat with cornstarch, cover the cubes well.

  • Sauté the tofu cubes in a pan with a little extra virgin olive oil and let them brown well for a few minutes.

  • Prepare the sauce for the tofu. Mix in a bowl the tamari, umeboshi vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, malt, chili pepper, grated ginger, lemon juice, garlic, and a few tablespoons of water.

  • Pour everything over the tofu in the pan and let it glaze until the sauce thickens.

    Serve by rolling the glazed tofu cubes in toasted sesame and accompany with rice and vegetables.

Tips for Sesame Glazed Tofu

Sesame glazed tofu keeps for a couple of days in the refrigerator. You can vary the recipe by using gomasio, chia seeds, or even ground flaxseeds instead of sesame.
