Frittata in air fryer

in

Air fryer frittata without a pan, cooking and preparation times for a simple, fluffy frittata like grandma used to make. The Grandma’s Frittata is a classic dish of Italian cuisine, but did you know that it can be cooked in the air fryer too and it’s delicious, just like the Vegetable Frittata in the air fryer we prepared some time ago and you loved it? I adore frittatas rich in vegetables like the Stuffed Onion Frittata or the Frittata stuffed with ham and cheese, and I often like to bake oven frittatas, while my children prefer simple egg-and-cheese frittatas, soft and perfect to eat inside a nice Sicilian milk roll. Since I discovered how to cook frittatas in the air fryer, I have put aside the big oven, pans and frying, and I make them in what is basically a very handy small oven. By cooking the frittata directly in the air fryer basket and avoiding dirtying baking dishes and other utensils, I prepare a very quick and nutritious main course that makes everyone happy. Grandma’s air fryer frittata is a healthy, light dish, cooked with little oil and very flavorful, perfect for serving a rich and wholesome meal with minimal effort. Let’s go to the kitchen and make it together — you’ll see how good it is! Ingredients for making the frittata in the air fryer

  • 8 eggs
  • 1 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano (or Grana Padano)
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 1 pinch salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder (baking powder for savory tarts – optional)
  • 3 tbsp breadcrumbs (regular or gluten-free for those who cannot consume gluten)
  • as needed extra virgin olive oil

Tools

  • Air fryer
  • Bowl

Preparation of the frittata in the air fryer

Cooking times for the frittata in the air fryer vary depending on the number of eggs used, so on the “height” of the frittata itself. This one, with 8 eggs in a 6-liter air fryer, took 15 minutes.

  • To make the frittata in the air fryer, break the eggs into a bowl, add the cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt (very little because the ingredients are already flavorful), pepper and beat everything together. If, like me, you want a soft, spongy frittata, also add the baking powder, which is simply a flavorless leavening agent for cakes.

  • Remove the rack from the fryer basket, line with parchment paper and pour in the mixture. Give a light spray of oil and cook in the air fryer at 356°F for 15 minutes, or until, by piercing the center of the frittata with the tip of a knife, you no longer see any raw egg. Our frittata is ready to be enjoyed, still hot and delicious (but it’s quite good at room temperature too).

Storage, notes and tips.

Store any leftover frittata in the fridge and consume within 24 hours.
