Apple Plumcake, grandma’s recipe for a fragrant, soft and delicious dessert! This apple plumcake, like the Torta tutta mele, with its irresistible aroma and softness is a breakfast (or snack) cake that is part of the large collection of Desserts with apples, prepared and gathered over the years on our blog. Over the years we have made many apple tarts, apple fritters, apple cookies and much more, but the soft apple plumcake was missing from our collection. So we decided to create a very soft one, enriching it with aromas and spices, and adding it to our collection dedicated to Plumcakes with grandma’s recipes. Ready to rush to the kitchen and discover how to make it together? Follow me, but before we roll up our sleeves I remind you that if you want to stay updated on all my recipes you can follow my Facebook page (here) and my Instagram profile (here) and that if you don’t want to turn on the oven, you can always make the upside-down apple cake in a pan or the apple cake in the air fryer.

Ingredients to make the apple plumcake
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup butter
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cooking cream (Or Greek yogurt)
- 1 apple
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 cloves, ground
- 2 tsp baking powder
- to taste salt
- to taste lemon zest
Preparation of the apple plumcake
Begin by whipping the eggs with the sugar, then add the melted butter and the cream.
Combine the flour, the baking powder and the salt. Take a medium apple and dice it.
Add the apple to the batter, together with the cinnamon, the ground cloves and the lemon zest.
Pour the batter into a 10-inch (25 cm) pan. To decorate your plumcake, thinly slice an apple and arrange the slices over the surface as you prefer. Bake at 338°F in a conventional (non-fan) oven for 45 minutes. Before taking it out of the oven, to make sure the plumcake is fully baked, insert a skewer and ensure it comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool before removing the pan. Your plumcake is ready to be served!
Storage notes and tips
Our plumcake keeps well for 2-3 days in a cool place covered by a glass dome.
