Breaded chicken drumsticks cooked in the air fryer, perfect for those who don’t know How to cook chicken, but want to prepare an easy and tasty meat main course. This is not an overly elaborate recipe — a last-minute idea to make chicken tasty and stress-free. A few days ago I bought drumsticks for my kids who adore them, and I wanted to surprise them a bit without working too hard. So I decided to cook them in the air fryer to make something more interesting than the usual roast chicken and I also thought of breading them to give their dinner a delicious crunchy crust that I flavored with paprika. The result was super tasty and as soon as my children saw the air-fried chicken drumsticks, crispy, tasty and delicious, they begged me to make them again the next day and even asked me to make mayonnaise to accompany them. Want to try cooking chicken in the air fryer and make this tasty little recipe? Ingredients
- 1.8 lb chicken drumsticks (or drumsticks and thighs)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika (or sweet paprika)
- 1 oz grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (about 1/4 cup)
- 1 tsp roasting herbs
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cups breadcrumb
- 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs eggs
- 3 tbsp barbecue sauce (or ketchup)
Tools
- Air fryer
- Bowl
Steps
Prepare the chicken drumsticks by removing any remaining feathers by flaming them off with a blowtorch or on the stovetop. With a sharp knife, score them on four sides and dredge them in the flour.
Beat the eggs with the barbecue sauce or ketchup.
Prepare a breading by mixing the grated cheese, breadcrumbs, one teaspoon of paprika and one teaspoon of roasting herbs.
Dip the floured chicken in the eggs, then in the breading. Repeat to make a double coating: eggs and breadcrumbs, pressing well with your hands so it adheres in a thick layer.
Place the chicken in the air fryer basket, give a few light sprays of oil and cook for 40 minutes at 320°F, turning halfway through.
Remove from the fryer, let cool for a few minutes and serve with barbecue sauce or homemade ketchup and mayonnaise.
You can also cook the chicken in the oven, but in that case increase the cooking time to about 45 minutes.
Chicken prepared this way should be served immediately and eaten right away. If you have leftovers, you can store them in the fridge and consume within 24 hours after reheating in the air fryer or in the oven, but it won’t be as good as freshly made.
