Canarino Digestive Drink

in ,

Canarino, the grandmother’s recipe for the old-fashioned digestive drink.
I remember it since childhood: after the big feasts we would prepare a nice “canarino”!
The “canarino” perfect for stomach ache or for indigestion, is the bar-style digestive drink after Christmas or New Year’s lunch or dinner and for Easter and Easter Monday, but not only. The yellow drink with bay leaves and lemon peel, also known here as the “canarino”, in this case is not a pretty little yellow bird, but a warm decoction obtained by simmering lemon peel (organic) and bay leaves.
A real grandmother’s remedy to cure stomach ache or poor digestion after large meals and my grandmother often made it when someone asked for a bit of “boiled water”. The “boiled water” with bay leaves from my childhood, however, was a simple sugared bay leaf decoction that over the years evolved and, thanks to the addition of lemon peel, transformed into the canarino.
If you find yourself stuck on the couch, with your tummy that won’t even produce a tiny burp and you are so full you can hardly breathe, make this and sip it while it’s still warm — I assure you it will do you a lot of good! Let’s go to the kitchen and discover how to make canarino, but first I remind you that if you want to stay updated on all my recipes, you can follow my Facebook page (here) and my Instagram profile (here).

Consume the canarino hot or warm, but you can drink any leftover cold as well; it won’t be as beneficial but will make a pleasant flavored beverage.
