The apple mug cake is a very quick single-portion dessert that is cooked in a few minutes in the microwave, or in a traditional home oven, an easy and very fast single-portion apple cake, which must be baked in mugs suitable for microwave oven use. A very simple recipe that gives a satisfying and indulgent result with a low calorie content. My apple mug cake recipe is butter-free and uses little sugar, a small comforting and fragrant treat to enjoy at any time of the day, and perfect when you have little time to dedicate to preparing a more structured dessert, such as the classic Grandma’s cinnamon apple cake. Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsps sugar
  • 3 tbsps all-purpose flour
  • 1 apple (small)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsps sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsps plain yogurt
  • Half tsp ground cinnamon

Tools

  • 2 Mugs
  • Microwave oven
  • Fork

Preparation

  • Break the egg into a mug, beat it with a fork and divide it half into each mug.
    Then add to each of the two mugs 1 1/2 tbsps of sugar, 1 tbsp of yogurt and 1 1/2 tbsps of oil, mix well with the fork.

  • Pour into each mug 1 1/2 tbsps of flour and mix. Peel an apple, cut it into 4, take two quarters, cut them into small pieces and add one quarter of the apple to each mug, folding them in.
    Finish by adding 1/2 tsp of baking powder for each mug cake and mixing well. Cook in the microwave at 750W for 2 minutes.
    Remove from the microwave, dust with powdered sugar and enjoy immediately while still hot.

  • If you want to add a little extra flair, pull off a small piece from the surface and drizzle a little milk into the spot where you removed the piece. The milk will soak into the cake making it even more indulgent — then cover it back and sprinkle with cinnamon!
    If you don’t have a microwave, bake at 356°F, convection mode, for about 15-20 minutes; do the toothpick test before removing from the oven and extend the time if necessary.
    Serve the apple mug cake preferably still slightly warm, but it is also good at room temperature.

Storage

Cover the apple mug cake with plastic wrap and consume preferably on the same day.
