GOLDEN MILK the delicious drink that’s good for you

in

Golden milk — the milk that’s so good for you! I had wanted to make this drink for a long time; I’ve seen it all over the internet. A milk-based beverage also called Golden milk, literally golden milk because of its special color. The recipe is really simple: a few ingredients and it boasts many beneficial properties. Just milk, turmeric, a pinch of pepper and ginger for a warm drink perfect for these cold, dreary days. The main ingredient is turmeric, a powerful antioxidant, a natural anti-inflammatory, a pain reliever and a booster for the immune system. Ginger is a spice renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, able to counter joint pain and inflammation and it aids digestion. This simple drink is one of the oldest natural remedies of Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional Indian medicine that aims to achieve complete well-being. I cannot guarantee all its benefits but I can tell you it’s true comfort food to get through a busy day, perfect as an evening treat and it’s delicious! at least for me, a huge fan of milk-based beverages! I used cow’s milk but plant-based milks like rice or almond milk work perfectly too. Let’s head to the kitchen and make a cup of delicious turmeric milk.

Ingredients for Turmeric and Ginger Milk

  • 1 cup milk (about 2/3–3/4 cup (about 5.4–6.1 fl oz))
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon honey (to sweeten)

How to make Golden Milk

  • Pour the milk into a small saucepan and warm it without bringing it to a boil. Add the turmeric, the ginger and the pepper. A pinch of black pepper is essential because it increases the absorption of turmeric and all its benefits.

  • Lower the heat to the minimum and, stirring with a whisk, let all the ingredients incorporate well into the milk. Let it cook for 7–8 minutes always without reaching a boil. If it starts to boil, remove the saucepan from the heat.

  • Pour the milk into a cup and sweeten it with a teaspoon of honey. Stir and let it cool slightly before enjoying it.
