If you plan to prepare an assorted buffet for your children’s birthday, these savory pastries will add an original touch to your treats!

The savory puff pastry flowers can be made using your imagination and personal tastes; I used only small sausages, but you can alternate sausages with pitted black and green olives.

  • Roll out the puff pastry on the work surface and use a pastry wheel to cut 12 vertical strips. Cut the strips in half.

  • Take one strip, stretch it slightly and close it into a ring, forming three loops side by side.
Cut each sausage into 6 small pieces and place one piece at each end.
Press together in the center with your fingers to seal.

  • Shape into a flower.
Arrange the flowers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with beaten egg.
    Sprinkle with chia seeds.
Bake at 356°F for about 20 minutes.

The savory puff pastry flowers can be prepared in advance and baked when you need them — a great timesaving strategy for gatherings when many dishes must be prepared.
