Homemade Beef Hamburger

Homemade beef hamburger and we start with the bun — of course it makes all the difference when a homemade beef hamburger is paired with a homemade bun. We can choose among all kinds of flours, all kinds of meat or even prepare them only with grains; the options are countless and you can satisfy any palate, taste, ethnicity and dietary need. Having two little nieces in the family and thinking of them in the kitchen, today I chose to make buns with hamburgers to be enjoyed outdoors in the garden, maybe under a wonderful pink pepper tree.

BUN INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups Type 00 wheat flour
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 12 g fresh brewer's yeast
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 10.6 oz ground beef (beef)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 6 leaves basil
  • 1/3 cup potato (boiled)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 oz asparagus (boiled)
  • 4 oz eggplant, cooked, in a pan (grilled)
  • 8 leaves curly lettuce

Tools

  • Stand Mixer
  • Kitchen Scale
  • Burger Press
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Bowl
  • Parchment Paper
  • Kitchen Towel
  • Small Saucepan
  • Grill
  • First of all I prepare the dough for the soft buns. I put the flour and sugar in the stand mixer, dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and pour it over the flour. I start mixing and add the egg, the oil and a handful of sesame seeds, and finally the salt.

  • As soon as the dough doubles (it will take at least a couple of hours), I divide it into 5 portions.

  • I form 5 balls and flatten them slightly; I added poppy seeds and sesame seeds on the surface. If you prefer you can change the seeds or skip them entirely. I use them for the crunch they provide.

  • I let the buns rest, covered, for 30 minutes.

  • I preheat the oven to 374°F and bake the buns for 20/25 minutes.

  • In a bowl I prepared the ground meat with the egg and salt, the breadcrumbs with the basil and the boiled potato mashed. I mixed everything well and divided into 5 hamburgers.

  • Now my buns are ready and I go to fill them with the homemade beef hamburger.

  • Of course I also divided the pan-grilled eggplants seasoned with salt and oil among the buns. The asparagus I boiled first and then quickly grilled.

  • I open the bun, place a leaf of curly lettuce first and then the seasoned eggplant.

  • I add a grilled hamburger.

  • I add the homemade beef hamburger and on top the asparagus simply seasoned with salt and oil.

  • For these buns I deliberately do not use sauces; I rely only on the strength of extra virgin olive oil, my ally in all recipes.

  • You can also season your hamburgers with other vegetables as you like.

in cucina con pina

My name is Pina, and my passion is food and cooking in general. On the blog, I focus on regional dishes like those from my birthplace, Sicily. I also feature dishes from Lazio, the region that has hosted me for over 40 years, but in general, I cover all Italian regions. Traveling and exploring is my second passion, so I couldn't leave out dishes from around the "World" on my blog. My blog is divided into simple and essential sections like appetizers, first courses, main courses, side dishes, bread and leavened products, jams and preserves, wines and wineries, and of course, travels. Desserts are included, and finally, there is a dedicated corner for gluten-free options. Easy recipes, explained step by step and always updated.
