Savory Puff Pastry Croissants

Easy, actually very easy, quick, actually very quick, savory puff pastry croissants are made in a flash and are delicious. You need very few ingredients, absolutely customizable to achieve an irresistible savory snack. If you’re looking for a delicious recipe, try the smoked scamorza bites. Perfect for an appetizer with friends, for a buffet lunch or dinner, one of my daughters, who prefers savory to sweet, even eats them for a snack and breakfast, so every time I make them, I have to double the batch. I stuffed them with scamorza and vegan deli slices. These croissants are obviously delicious when warm with the cheese melting, so I recommend preparing them just before serving, also because it really takes little time, but alternatively, we can warm them a few minutes in a warm, turned-off oven to restore the freshness of when they are freshly baked. Let’s roll up our sleeves and prepare together the savory puff pastry croissants.

Preparation of savory puff pastry croissants

  • To prepare our croissants, take the puff pastry out of the fridge 5 minutes before using it because if it’s too cold, it cracks while unrolling. At this point, unroll it with its baking paper, and using a pastry wheel, cut it into triangles.

  • Place a piece of deli slice on each triangle. At the base of the puff pastry triangles, put a bit of cheese and roll (from the base to the tip) forming the croissants.

  • Place the croissants with the baking paper on a baking sheet. Mix the egg yolk with the milk and brush the croissants. Sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake in a preheated, static oven at 356°F for about 20 minutes. Serve them hot.

Storage of savory puff pastry croissants

We can store the croissants in the fridge for two or three days. We can also choose to freeze them, just don’t use puff pastry from the freezer section.
