The mashed potatoes in the instant pot are ready in 15 minutes and make a great side dish to accompany the pork roast with instant pot or the shank in slow cooker. While the recipe for gratin potatoes with multicooker requires double cooking, first steaming and then using the oven function, these instant pot mashed potatoes cook the diced potatoes in milk and water with the pressure function. Finally, they are mashed and blended with butter and nutmeg. Such a soft mash without having to follow the cooking. This recipe adds to the rich collection of Italian recipes with instant pot and many more will follow soon. To avoid confusion, speaking of instant pot, multicooker, and multifunction pot, I have created a guide to instant pots, with my shopping tips. I hope I’ve been helpful.

Ingredients for making mashed potatoes
- 2.2 lbs potatoes
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 3 pinches salt
- 6 tbsps butter
- 2 pinches nutmeg
- 1.75 oz Grana Padano, grated (optional)
What is needed to make mashed potatoes in the multicooker
- 1 multicooker with non-stick bottom
- 1 Potato Masher manual
Procedure
Peel the potatoes, wash them and cut them into cubes. Distribute the potato cubes in the instant pot and add the milk, water, and salt. Stir and close with the appropriate lid. Set pressure cooking for 15 minutes, if possible choosing the low option at 230°F. At the end of cooking, let the pot sit closed for 5 minutes.
After resting, depressurize the instant pot and remove the lid. Using the potato masher, mash them into puree and then add the butter, nutmeg and mix well. Finally, add the grated cheese, mix and serve.
Rosella’s Tips
Mashed potatoes should be consumed immediately, hot and creamy but, if they should be left over, you can use them the next day to make small potato muffins. Add 1-2 eggs, depending on the amount left over, mix well. Butter some molds and distribute a few tablespoons of mash on the bottom, fill with ham and mushrooms and cover with more mash. Cook in the air fryer for 8 minutes at 355°F.
