Blueberry Infusion

Making blueberry infusion at home is very easy, it doesn’t require any special equipment, and it allows us to have a healthy product without added sugars unless you want to sweeten it to taste at the moment, and with little expense.

Infusion is a method that allows extracting the active ingredients and the aromas of certain foods simply by putting them in contact with boiling water; then let it rest for at least two hours, and after filtering, our infusion is ready.

There are many teas and infusions commercially available that often contain sugars or other ingredients, but since, as you will see, it is really easy to make your own drink at home, we can guarantee a product that is always fresh.

I chose to prepare my infusion with blueberries because we know these little blue fruits contain many health benefits, are anti-inflammatory, and help control glucose levels.

I preferred not to sweeten my blueberry infusion to savor all its nuances, but I added a spent vanilla bean, which gave extraordinary aromas to my blueberry infusion.

Ingredients

  • 4.5 oz blueberries
  • 1.7 cups water
  • vanilla (one spent bean or a teaspoon of extract)

Tools

  • 1 Strainer
  • Chopper

Steps

  • – Quickly rinse the blueberries under running water and then puree them with a blender or chopper.

  • – Place the blueberry puree in a saucepan, add hot or cold water, vanilla, and bring to a boil uncovered for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat, cover, and let infuse for 2 hours (or longer if needed).

  • – Strain with a fine-mesh strainer and place the blueberry infusion in the fridge, covering the carafe with plastic wrap. If you have a bottle with a closure cap, you can transfer it.

  • – If needed, you can serve with ice cubes and sweeten to taste.

– Keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days
