Meat and Potato Meatballs in Sauce

Meat and potato meatballs in sauce, an easy-to-prepare main dish, perfect for the whole family. Due to their softness, they are particularly suitable for children or the elderly.

These meat and potato meatballs are also perfect to prepare in advance and then heat up a few minutes before serving.

As a side dish, we recommend pan-fried potatoes.

Ingredients for meat and potato meatballs in sauce:

  • 14 oz lean ground meat
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium egg (at room temperature)
  • 1 steamed potato
  • to taste fine salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste breadcrumbs (if necessary)
  • to taste chopped parsley
  • 2 1/2 cups tomato passata
  • 1 clove fresh garlic
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil

Steps for preparing and cooking meat and potato meatballs in sauce:

  • In a large pan, place the extra virgin olive oil, garlic clove, and tomato passata, salt and stir well, cook for 5 minutes on low heat.

  • In a bowl, mash the steamed potato at room or slightly warm temperature, add the meat, egg, grated Parmesan, fresh chopped parsley, salt, and pepper, and mix well to obtain a smooth and homogeneous mixture.

    If you find the mixture too soft, add some breadcrumbs to thicken it.

  • Shape the mixture into meatballs and add them to the sauce, cook for 30 minutes, turning them gently halfway through cooking (you will notice that compared to regular meatballs, they are softer).

    Serve the meat and potato meatballs on individual plates, add some sauce, and if desired, accompany with slices of toasted bread for the final scoop.

Suggestions:

You can also use a mix of veal or beef and pork for this recipe.
