Potato Roll with Ham and Mozzarella

The potato roll with ham and mozzarella is a delightful recipe full of flavor and easy to make.

Versatile because instead of cooked ham, you can use other cold cuts, and mozzarella can be replaced with provolone.

Perfect to serve on outings, at a buffet, or as a dinner dish, I find the potato roll to be a real gem!

In short, it’s a lovely meatloaf that, instead of meat, has potatoes as the main ingredient.

Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs Potatoes
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/2 cup Parmigiano Reggiano DOP
  • 1 cup Mozzarella
  • 3.5 oz Cooked Ham
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • to taste Breadcrumbs
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Nutmeg

Tools

  • Loaf Pan 10 inches

Preparation

  • – Boil the potatoes in your preferred way (I peel them, cut them into somewhat uniform pieces, and boil them for 4/5′ in the pressure cooker with a glass of water from the whistle) and mash them while they’re still hot.

    – Transfer the mash into a large bowl and season with salt and nutmeg.

  • – Add the egg yolk and mix everything with a fork; season with pepper.

  • – On a sheet of parchment paper, spread the mixture into a rectangular shape, cover with a first layer of cooked ham, add the mozzarella, and cover with more ham.

  • – Using the parchment paper, roll the loaf, close it candy-style, and shape it regularly. Open the parchment paper, brush the surface with a little oil, and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

  • – Close the parchment paper like candy and place the roll in a loaf pan.

Bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for about half an hour.

    – Remove from oven, unmold, and serve.

Ingredient Substitutions:

Instead of ham, you can use speck or mortadella, and instead of mozzarella try scamorza or provolone
