Baked Balloon Bread

The baked balloon bread is tasty, light, and very scenic loaves. The peculiarity of this bread is that it puffs up during baking; it can also be cooked in a pan, creating a pocket that can be filled with cold cuts, cheeses, vegetables, or sweet creams.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Manitoba flour
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tsp salt

How to make balloon bread

  • Place the flour in a bowl together with the yeast and mix.

  • Then pour in the water and mix well until a loaf is formed.

  • Let it rest in a bowl for 25-30 minutes covered with plastic wrap, preferably in the switched-off oven with the light on.

  • After the resting time, divide the dough into 10 balls of about 3 oz each.

  • Roll out all the balls with the help of a rolling pin, achieving a thickness of about 1/3 inch. Then let them rest for another 10 minutes.

  • Bake your balloon bread in the oven at 392°F, as soon as the bread puffs up and turns golden, take it out, it will take about 5-6 minutes.

Storage and tips for baked balloon bread

Baked balloon bread can be stored for a day at room temperature, covered with plastic wrap or inside a food bag. An alternative cooking method could be to cook it in a non-stick pan at a fairly high temperature, without added fats.
