- Portions: 6 muffins
- Cooking methods: Air Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All Seasons
Ingredients for pizza-style muffins in air fryer:
- 1 roll pizza dough (rectangular)
- as needed tomato sauce
- as needed dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- as needed fine salt
- 4 slices provola cheese
- as needed grated parmesan cheese
Tools for pizza-style muffins in air fryer:
- 1 Air Fryer
- 6 Cupcake Liners silicone
- 1 Knife
Steps for making and cooking pizza-style muffins with pizza dough:
In a not too large bowl, put the tomato sauce (about 6/7 tablespoons), extra virgin olive oil, salt, and oregano, and mix well.
Unroll the pizza dough roll and place it on a work surface, leaving the provided parchment paper:
Spread the seasoned tomato sauce over the entire surface of the dough, leaving an inch along all four sides of the rectangle.
Sprinkle generously with grated parmesan cheese or grana if you prefer a less intense flavor.
Place the provola slices on top (you can also use 6); we preferred provola because it is drier than mozzarella), and add salt.
Using the parchment paper, roll from the longer base of the rectangle.
Cut off the two ends and then make 6 cuts, each about 2 inches.
Place each piece with the cut side up in a silicone cupcake liner, and do the same with all remaining dough pieces.
AIR FRYER COOKING: Place the rack and then the 6 liners on top, sprinkle them with more grated parmesan cheese.
Close the drawer and cook at 320°F for 6 minutes, then at 338°F for 8 minutes. If you like, you can add 1 minute of grill for a nice browning on top.
OVEN COOKING:
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake them in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 20 minutes.
TIPS:
You can also use homemade pizza dough, just roll it out to a thickness of less than a quarter-inch and then proceed as in the recipe.
