Sweet Rings with Malvasia

The sweet rings with Malvasia, a real treat for the palate, have an intense flavor given by both the wine and the extra virgin olive oil with which the rings are prepared.

For those who do not know Malvasia, it is a characteristic wine from Piedmont in the Basso Monferrato area, Carducci called it “Rejoicing land of castles and vineyards.”

Malvasia has a light ruby red color and a fragrant aroma, a sweet and slightly aromatic flavor.

The recipe for the rings is from the website Dolcidee.it

Sweet Rings with Malvasia1
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 25 rings
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for the sweet rings with Malvasia:

  • 1/3 cup Malvasia
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 3/4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (delicate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • as needed brown sugar

Tools for the sweet rings with Malvasia:

  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Work surface
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Baking tray

Steps for preparing and baking the sweet rings with Malvasia:

  • In a glass bowl, put the Malvasia and the granulated sugar. Stir the two ingredients well with a spoon until the sugar dissolves completely, then add the extra virgin olive oil and mix well.

Choose an extra virgin olive oil with a very delicate flavor so as not to overpower the sweet rings’ taste. A too strong oil flavor would be too noticeable in the treats.

  • Add the sifted baking powder and the flour, then start mixing the ingredients and transfer it to a lightly floured work surface. Work the mixture until it becomes smooth and homogeneous.

Take some dough and roll it into a rope with the diameter of a pinky finger, cut the rope into 4-inch pieces, form a ring by overlapping one end with the other.

Pass the ring through the brown sugar on both sides to make it adhere well, then place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Repeat the same procedure with all the dough you have available.

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes (they should be nicely golden), let them cool before consuming.
