Cabbage Rolls

Today I’m sharing the recipe for these delicious cabbage rolls.

Cabbage is a type of vegetable that pairs perfectly with numerous dishes to serve. It is usually used with rice and pasta, sometimes even as a side dish, but this time I wanted to make rolls by adding potatoes and provola cheese. These last two ingredients give an exceptional boost, making these rolls very tasty. This is a good idea for getting your kids to eat this healthy vegetable too.

Of course, when it comes to the filling, you can choose based on your personal preferences: they can be stuffed with ground meat and rice, crumbled sausage, potatoes and provola, or mixed vegetables for vegetarian rolls.

These rolls can be prepared the day before and are good to eat either cold or hot.

Let’s head to the kitchen and prepare them together!!

Ingredients for Cabbage Rolls

  • 8 leaves savoy cabbage
  • 4 potatoes
  • 2.1 oz smoked provola cheese
  • to taste salt
  • extra virgin olive oil

Tools

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Pot
  • 1 Baking dish

Cabbage Rolls Steps

  • First, prepare 2 pots with plenty of water; in one pot, cook the potatoes with the skin on, and in the other, the cabbage leaves.

Take a nice large savoy cabbage and detach some leaves, being careful not to break them. Wash them and plunge them into boiling water, cooking for a few minutes.

In the meantime, check the potatoes for doneness with the prongs of a fork, let them cool completely, and after cooking the cabbage leaves, spread them out on a kitchen towel.

Peel the potatoes and mash them with a fork, season with a pinch of salt, and set aside. Take the provola cheese and cut it into small pieces.

On a work surface, spread out the leaves and place the mashed potatoes and small pieces of smoked provola in the center of each leaf. Fold the edges, giving it the shape of a closed envelope.

Take a baking dish, add a drizzle of oil, and place the rolls seam-side down. Once ready, season with salt, a drizzle of oil, and if you like, you can add a bit of black pepper. Bake in a preheated static oven at 340°F for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve; they are great to eat hot and very cheesy.
