Ingredients for Nutella Christmas Cookies:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 1 large egg (at room temperature)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch fine salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder (leveled)
  • 2 tsps ground cinnamon
  • as needed Nutella
  • as needed powdered sugar

Tools for Nutella Christmas Cookies:

  • Cookie Cutters
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Work Surface

Steps for Preparing and Baking Nutella Christmas Cookies:

  • First, prepare the CINNAMON SHORTCRUST, alternatively you can also use COCONUT SHORTCRUST.

On a work surface, sprinkle a little flour, then place the shortcrust dough and roll out a very thin sheet (do not make it as thick as 1/4 inch because it tends to increase in volume during baking and stacking two cookies on top of each other would make them too tall).

With Christmas cookie cutters, make many shapes, half circular and the other half with a design. We purchased THESE CUTTERS and were very satisfied. Then re-knead the scraps and make other cookies until the dough is finished.

  • Place the freshly cut cookies on a very large non-stick baking sheet and bake at 356°F for about 8 minutes, until they start to turn golden, then remove the tray from the oven and let them cool.

On the circular cookies without a hole, put a little Nutella in the center, then dust the cookies with the central hole with powdered sugar and place one on top of the Nutella cookie. Repeat the same procedure with the remaining cookies.

We suggest dusting with powdered sugar first, so the Nutella stays clean and they look nicer.

  • Store the cookies in a hermetically sealed tin box so they maintain their crunchiness.

Notes

You can replace the Nutella with pistachio cream, almond cream, or simply with jam.
