The crumb cake with Type 1 flour is a simple and quick dessert to prepare. The Type 1 flour gives the cake a rustic flavor and texture that will win you over at the first bite.

To fill the crumb cake, I used jam, but if you prefer, you can use Nutella. To make the dough even more delicious, I added chocolate chips, but you can also omit them.

Ingredients

For the pastry

  • 2 3/4 cups flour (Type 1)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sunflower oil
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • as needed jam

How to Make Crumb Cake with Type 1 Flour

  • In a bowl, place the egg, egg yolk, and sugar. Mix with a fork.

  • Add water and oil, and mix.

  • Finally, add flour, baking powder, and chocolate chips. Work the mixture with your hands until you get a homogeneous dough.

  • Divide the dough into two equal parts. Line a 9.5-inch mold with parchment paper and spread one part of the pastry on the base. Also, create a small edge.

  • Cover the base of the crumb cake with a layer of jam.

  • Take the remaining pastry and crumble it coarsely over the cake. Bake in a preheated static oven at 350°F and let it cook for about 30 minutes. Make sure to check the cooking times based on your oven.

  • Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and if you like, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
