Pressure Cooker Lentils

Pressure cooker lentils, an easy and quick preparation method, just soak the dry lentils in the evening and then the next day they are ready to be used, with a cooking time much lower than the classic cooking method which requires 30/40 minutes, with the pressure cooker 15 minutes.

For cooking legumes with the pressure cooker, you must always check that the valve on the pressure cooker lid is clean and free of food residues. To check, just hold the lid up to the light and see if the hole is clear, if not, clean it with a toothpick.

  • Rest time: 10 Hours
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes

  • Cooking methods: Pressure cooker
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients for the lentils:

  • 1.5 cups dry lentils (we used the small ones)
  • as needed water
  • as needed salt (to add after cooking)

Tools for pressure-cooked lentils:

  • 1 Pressure cooker
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Bowl

Steps for preparing and cooking the lentils:

  • Place the lentils in a bowl, cover them with cold water, and let them rest overnight. We used small lentils for this recipe, soaking them in water for 8 hours.

After the time has passed, wash the lentils well and place them in the pressure cooker, add water until it covers the lentils by 2 inches.

Close the cooker with its lid, check that the valve is tightly closed, and turn on the gas to medium heat. Once pressure is reached, lower the gas and cook for 10 minutes for small lentils and 15 minutes for regular lentils.

  • After the time has passed, turn off the gas and let the lentils rest for a few minutes, then slowly turn the valve, remove the lid, and your lentils are ready to be used for your recipes.

Once cooked, season the lentils with salt.

  • PROCEDURE WITH THE MULTICOOKER:

Place the washed and overnight-soaked lentils in the basket of the electric pressure cooker, add water and close the pot, check that the valve is tightly closed, set the pressure cooking program to 248°F (120°C) for 10 minutes for small lentils and 15 for regular ones.

Once cooked, slowly vent the pot.
