Ingredients for cabbage rolls with rice in the jar

  • 4 leaves savoy cabbage
  • 120 g pilaf rice
  • 100 g scamorza cheese
  • 2 tbsp Grana Padano, grated
  • 2 fresh scallions
  • extra virgin olive oil (preferably spray)

What you need

  • 1 Pot
  • 1 Slotted spoon
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Microwave
  • 2 Jars 500 ml with a thin seal
  • Toothpicks

Procedure

  • Pour the rice into a bowl and let it cool. Then, peel the scallions, slice them, and add them to the rice. Dice the scamorza cheese into small cubes and add it to the rice along with a tablespoon of grated cheese, mix well and set aside.

  • Meanwhile, bring slightly salted water to a boil, and as soon as it boils, immerse a cabbage leaf. Completely submerge it and as soon as the water returns to a boil, remove the leaf with a slotted spoon and set it aside. Continue until all the cabbage leaves are done.

  • Take 2 tablespoons of filling and place them in the center of the cabbage leaf. If the bottom part of the leaf has a thick rib, slice it with a knife (as shown in the photo) so it will be easier to roll. Roll the leaf around the filling and secure it with a toothpick. Continue until all the ingredients are used.

  • Spray a little oil inside the 2 jars and place the rolls inside. Spray them with a little oil and sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top. Clean the rim of the jars, close, and latch. Place a jar in the microwave and start cooking for 6 minutes at your tested power, mine is 600 watts. At the end of cooking, remove the jar from the microwave and let it rest closed for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the other jar of cabbage rolls.
