Flattened Cake with Nutella

Flattened cake with Nutella. A simple and quick dessert to prepare, perfect for breakfast and snack time.

The flattened cake with Nutella is a simple dessert to prepare. The dough is very easy. To give you an idea, it is similar to the Marche-style ciambellone, but it has nothing to do with the original recipe, I just mentioned it to give you an idea of the type.

The flattened cake is therefore a rolled shortcrust biscuit baked in the oven. Once cooled, it is cut into slices and ready to be enjoyed.

But let’s see how to prepare the flattened cake with Nutella.

For this recipe, I took inspiration from here.

  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 3.5 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp liqueur (to taste)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 lemon zest
  • 5 oz Nutella®
  • as needed granulated sugar (for the surface)

Tools

  • 1 Baking pan
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Bowl

How to prepare the flattened cake with Nutella

  • In a bowl, add the egg, sugar, oil, and grated zest of a non-treated lemon. Mix with a spoon.

  • Add the milk and liqueur. You can use any liqueur you prefer. Mix with the spoon.

  • Finally, add the flour and baking powder. Knead with your hands until you get a soft, homogeneous but not sticky dough.

  • With your hands, roll out the dough on a lightly floured parchment paper sheet. You should form a rectangle about 0.6 inches thick.

  • Add a layer of Nutella and smooth it out.

  • Using the parchment paper, fold the rectangle like a book. Seal the edges and the ends so the roll won’t open during baking. Place everything inside a baking pan making sure the seams are at the bottom.

  • Brush the surface of the cake with some milk and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

  • Bake in a preheated static oven at 356°F and let it cook for about 35/40 minutes. Please check the cooking time based on your oven.

  • Remove from oven and let the cake cool completely, then cut it into slices.

  • Serve yourself.
