Ingredients
My chocolate castagnole
- 3 1/2 oz stale bread
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 tbsp butter
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp orange zest (grated)
- corn oil (for frying)
- sugar (for decoration)

Preparation of the chocolate castagnole:
– Break the bread into pieces and soak it in milk to soften.
– Squeeze the bread, crumble it and put it in the mixer with all the other ingredients.
– Blend everything together, and if the dough is soft, place it in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
– Heat the oil and once ready, drop some dough taken with a spoon, frying a few balls at a time.
– Drain the chocolate castagnole on absorbent paper and then roll them in granulated sugar or decorate with powdered sugar.
Tips:
As I mentioned, they are excellent paired with strawberries.
The presence of the bread ensures they remain soft in the evening.
