Ingredients for 16 mini Nutella puff pastry croissants or 8 large croissants

If you’re celiac, you can use ready-made gluten-free puff pastry; remember that Nutella, or any similar hazelnut cream, should be labeled “gluten-free”.

  • 1 roll puff pastry (round)
  • 4.58 oz Nutella®
  • 0.7 oz toasted hazelnuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, for decoration)

Tools

The food processor and brush are only necessary if you decide to enrich the croissants with chopped hazelnuts and sugar on top.

  • 1 Food Processor
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Baking Tray
  • 1 Brush
  • Parchment Paper

How to prepare Nutella puff pastry croissants

  • To prepare Nutella puff pastry croissants, start by preparing the hazelnut crunch: it’s not essential, but it adds a delightful crunch. Put the hazelnuts in a food processor and coarsely chop them (2). Set them aside. Unroll the puff pastry and spread it with a layer of Nutella, leaving about 0.39 inches free around the entire circumference (3).

    a. spread the Nutella on the round puff pastry
  • Sprinkle the hazelnut crunch on top (4), keeping one or two teaspoons aside to decorate the croissants. With a knife, divide the puff pastry into 16 wedges for mini croissants, or into 8 wedges if you prefer larger croissants (5). Gently detach them and roll them up starting from the outside (6).

    b. cut the Nutella puff pastry into 16 wedges
  • The tip of each wedge should be placed at the bottom of the croissant, so it doesn’t lift during baking (7). Place the Nutella croissants on a parchment-lined baking tray, well spaced as they will puff up in the oven (8). Brush them with a little water (9).

    c. brush the mini puff pastry croissants with water
  • Garnish first with some granulated sugar (10), which will make them more golden, and then with the hazelnut crunch you set aside (11). Bake the puff pastry croissants in a preheated oven at 392°F for 10-12 minutes for smaller croissants, or for 15-18 minutes for larger croissants. Take them out of the oven when they are puffed and golden (12).

    d. bake the mini Nutella puff pastry croissants
  • Let them cool slightly before removing them from the tray. You can serve the Nutella puff pastry croissants as they are or sprinkled with powdered sugar, for breakfast or a snack. They are also a nice idea for kids’ snacks to take to school.
