Orange Donut Cookies

These orange donut cookies are wonderful, soft, and perfect for dipping in a warm cappuccino at breakfast like the dunking cookies, or enjoyed as an afternoon snack.

They are a genuine, simple, and quick recipe made with ingredients that are always at home, like ricotta, zest, and juice of an orange, sugar, flour, and just one egg! My advice is not to make the donuts too big because they will grow in volume during baking, well, have I intrigued you? Then let’s prepare them together 😜

Ingredients for Orange Donut Cookies

  • 7 oz oz cow's milk ricotta
  • 3/4 cup cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups cup all-purpose flour
  • orange zest (grated)
  • to taste orange (juiced)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch fine salt
  • to taste powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch baking powder

You will need

  • Bowl
  • Round Cutter round
  • Baking Mat

I prepare the orange donut cookies

  • In a bowl, I put the ricotta, sugar, egg, flavors, orange juice, and a pinch of salt, and with a spoon, I work all the ingredients to make the dough creamy and smooth. I add the flour and baking powder and quickly knead by hand to form a nice dough ball.

On a lightly floured surface, I roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. With the help of a 2 3/4-inch cutter, I cut out the disks for the donuts and with a smaller cutter, I cut the central part.

  • I place our shortcrust donuts on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat, and bake in a preheated oven at 340°F for about 15/18 minutes until they are slightly colored. Once cooked, I dust them with a little powdered sugar and taste!

Storage

Store the orange donut cookies in a tin container or cookie box for up to a week.
