Ingredients to prepare TUNA PUFF PASTRIES

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 3.2 oz canned tuna in oil (well-drained)
  • 3.2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 egg yolk (+ a splash of milk for brushing)

Tools to prepare TUNA PUFF PASTRIES

  • Pizza Cutter wheel
  • Brush silicone

Steps to prepare TUNA PUFF PASTRIES

  • Drain the tuna as best as you can, use a sieve if you have one.
Then combine the tuna with the cream cheese in a small bowl and mix until well combined.

  • Unroll the puff pastry positioning the long side horizontally (in the photo, it seems almost the opposite, but it’s just an optical effect). With a pizza cutter or a smooth-bladed knife, divide the pastry into three equal parts.

Spread the tuna cream on one third of one of the three pastry parts, then roll gently, starting from the filled side, until you form a ‘snake’.

Repeat the operation for the other two parts of the pastry, then transfer everything onto the baking sheet.

  • Brush the three ‘snakes’ with a beaten egg yolk mixed with a splash of milk.

Using a pizza cutter, divide each snake into pieces about 1 inch wide, then space them apart.

Place in a preheated static oven at 375°F for about 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.

  • And here they are, the TUNA PUFF PASTRIES ready!

Tips and Variations

I recommend preparing your tuna puff pastries on the same day you wish to serve them; puff pastry, indeed, tends to lose its crispness quickly.

However, if there are any left, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one day.

You can replace the tuna with ingredients you like best; try to maintain the pairing with a spreadable cheese or a stringy cheese (like provolone) cut into thin slices.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • How to replace the tuna?

You can replace the tuna with, for example, smoked salmon.

  • How to replace the cream cheese like Philadelphia?

You can use robiola, ricotta, or a stringy cheese (like provolone or mozzarella for pizza) cut into very thin slices.

  • How can I make the puff pastries vegetarian?

You can fill your puff pastries with ricotta and spinach, for example.
