Green Tea with Lemon Juice and Zest

Green Tea with Lemon Juice and Zest, a recipe so simple and quick, yet so delicious, that once you taste it, you’ll never want to do without it. It’s nothing like industrial teas, which are mostly sugar. As for me, I’m used to preparing it without sugar, but since the recipe isn’t just for me, I thought it best to add the minimum necessary. I recommend adding very little, tasting it, and only adding more if it doesn’t suit your taste. Ideal on the hottest days of the year because it’s refreshing, but also great at room temperature or hot, so it’s a beverage you can enjoy all year round.

Green Tea with Lemon Juice and Zest
  • Cost: Very cheap
  • Rest time: 2 Hours
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 1qt
  • Cooking methods: Boiling
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons, Summer

Ingredients

  • 1 qt water
  • 2.1 oz sugar (to taste)
  • 2 large lemons, zest and juice
  • 3 bags green tea

Tools

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Vegetable Peeler
  • 1 Citrus Juicer
  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Glass Bottle

Preparation

Thoroughly wash two lemons, preferably untreated, dry them, and use a vegetable peeler to remove the zest, making sure to only take the yellow part. Place it in a saucepan, add the water and sugar, and boil for about 5 minutes.

After this time, turn off the heat, add the green tea bags, and let them steep for 4-5 minutes. Finally, remove the bags and pour in the squeezed and strained lemon juice to avoid seeds.

Take the lemon zest out of the saucepan, place it in the blender with a bit of tea, and blend finely. At this point, strain everything, fill a bottle or a carafe with a hermetic seal, and let it cool. Once at room temperature, chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least two hours.

When it reaches your preferred temperature, you can enjoy tasting it.

Serve our Green Tea with Lemon Juice and Zest, simply cold or enriched with ice, a lemon slice, and mint leaves. However, I can assure you that even at room temperature or warm, it’s not bad at all.

Tips and Storage

Lemon green tea keeps perfectly in the refrigerator for a few days. Please make sure to store it in a glass or ceramic container with a hermetic seal.

You can also freeze it, perhaps in ice cube trays, with a mint leaf and a piece of lemon inside. In this way, they will enrich other drinks, those you prefer, when needed.
