If you’re looking for tasty and inviting bread substitutes, do this: make these delicious breadsticks with sun-dried tomatoes. You won’t regret it. In fact, while you’re at it, double the doses because they’ll be eaten as snacks too, they’re that good. You can make them with any mixer, but if you have a Thermomix, the whole operation will be even faster.

Ingredients for the Tasty Breadsticks

In this recipe, I used 3 g of dry yeast, but fresh yeast works just as well. In this case, you could use 8/9 g. If you are interested in knowing the correspondence between these two different products, read the article I wrote about it. You can find it by clicking HERE.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Manitoba flour
  • 1/3 cup sun-dried tomatoes in oil
  • 2 tsp capers
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Tools

I prepared the dough for these tasty breadsticks with the Thermomix, but you can make it with any other mixer and even by hand. You will still need a chopper to finely chop sun-dried tomatoes and capers. If you use a stand mixer, follow the same steps I indicated and knead with a dough hook.

  • 1 Mixer (I used the Thermomix)
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Baking Sheet

Preparation of the Tasty Breadsticks

  • Place the sun-dried tomatoes and capers in the mixer bowl and chop finely (two seconds at speed 7, then gather the mixture to the center of the bowl and repeat the operation). Remove the mixture from the bowl and set it aside.

  • Now pour the water, yeast, and sugar into the bowl and mix (30 seconds, 98.6°F, speed 2). If not using the Thermomix, use lukewarm water.

  • Then, add the two flours and give it an initial knead (1 minute at Knead speed).

  • It’s time to add the butter in pieces and the salt. Knead again (another 2 minutes still at Knead speed).

  • Finally, add the mixture of sun-dried tomatoes and capers and knead again (1 more minute, still at Knead speed).

  • Transfer the dough onto the work surface, knead it a little with your hands, and form a ball. Place it inside a bowl, cover it and let it rise for two hours in a warm place, protected from drafts.

  • After the rising time, flatten the dough, cut it into strips, and roll them with your hands to form breadsticks.

  • Gradually place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Bake the tasty breadsticks with sun-dried tomatoes in a preheated static oven at 392°F for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before enjoying. Enjoy! Paola
