Ingredients for Valentine’s Cookies
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- Half lemon zest
- 1 vanilla pod (seeds)
- as needed black cherry jam
- as needed powdered sugar
Tools
- Cookie Cutter for heart-shaped cookies
I used the heart cookie cutters, if you’re interested, you can find them HERE
Steps
In a bowl, mix the butter and sugar by hand. Then add the eggs, salt, grated lemon zest, and vanilla seeds and continue mixing. Finally, add the flour all at once, mixing quickly. Take the shortcrust pastry obtained, form a ball, and let it rest in the fridge for at least half an hour.
Roll out the pastry on a work surface with a rolling pin. Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cut out the center with a smaller heart-shaped cutter.
Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes at 350°F until lightly golden. Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool before filling.
Spread the jam on the whole heart cookie with a spoon and then top it with the one with the heart center, sprinkle with a little powdered sugar, and our Valentine’s cookies are ready to be enjoyed.
Storage
They can be stored for up to a week in a well-sealed tin box or cookie jar.
