  • Cooking methods: Electric Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 1 package shortcrust pastry
  • 5.6 oz strawberry jam
  • to taste red gel food coloring
  • to taste powdered sugar

Tools

  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Cutter heart-shaped
  • 1 Cutter heart-shaped for cake design
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Crimping Wheel

How to Prepare Small Heart-Shaped Tarts

Open the package of shortcrust pastry, roll it out, and with a heart-shaped cutter, cut out 8 mini tarts. Place them directly in a baking sheet, laying them on their own parchment paper. With the prongs of a fork, prick them all over.

Knead the scraps into a ball and roll it out with a small rolling pin. From this new sheet, with a crimping wheel or not, cut out many strips.

Place the strawberry jam inside the hearts, trying to leave a few millimeters of the edges free. Finally, create a lattice with the strips on each heart. Put the leftover shortcrust pastry in a small bowl or dish, and color it red with the food gel. Add only a few drops at a time to reach the desired color intensity.

With a small heart cake design cutter, cut out as many pieces as all the little leftover dough. After distributing them on the shortcrust hearts, bake in a preheated oven at 356°F (180°C), in static mode, and let cook for about 12/15 minutes.

Serve your Small Heart-Shaped Tarts when they are completely cooled, and optionally sprinkle them with powdered sugar.

Tips and Storage

The heart-shaped mini tarts can be stored for at least three days, but always inside an airtight container, rather than in a bread bag.

If you don’t like strawberry jam, you can always opt for cherry or any type that tends to be red, because don’t forget you will serve them on Valentine’s Day, maybe with breakfast!!!
