Pear and Chocolate Crumble Recipe

  • Start the preparation of the pear and chocolate crumble by weighing the butter, sugar, and all-purpose flour directly into the blender cup.
Add also the zest of half an untreated orange.

  • Blend for a couple of minutes or until large crumbs that resemble shortcrust pastry are formed.
    Set aside.

  • Wash, peel, and cut the pears into pieces, removing the central seeds.
Place them in the baking dish where you will cook the crumble.

  • Add the chocolate chips and the zest from the other half of the orange to the pears.
Mix with a spoon to distribute the ingredients evenly.

  • Cover the pears with the crumble, trying not to press it too hard to avoid making it uniform.

  • Bake the pear and chocolate crumble in a preheated static oven at 350°F (180°C) for 30-35 minutes: the crumble should take on a nice golden color.
Remove it from the oven even if it is still soft and let it cool: when it reaches the right temperature, it will become crunchy.
Serve it with ice cream or cream as desired.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • What kind of pears should I use for the crumble?

The ideal varieties are Williams, Abate or Conference pears, because they have a firm and juicy flesh that does not break down too much in cooking.

  • Can I replace the chocolate chips with chocolate pieces?

Absolutely yes! You can use dark, milk or white chocolate chopped into pieces. The melted chocolate between the fruit and the crumble will be even more delicious.

  • Can I make the crumble without butter?

Yes, you can replace the butter with cold coconut oil or vegetable margarine. However, the taste and texture will be slightly different.

  • How do I store pear and chocolate crumble?

You can store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, covered with plastic wrap. Before serving, heat it slightly in the oven or microwave to restore its crunchiness.
