The Kale Chips in microwave are ready in 4 minutes, delicious, very crispy, and oil-free, they will be perfect to munch on at any time.
Don’t have a microwave or don’t want to try it? You can use an air fryer or a traditional oven, it will take more time but they are still perfect and very crispy.
We used the purple kale from Verona, but I am sure that with the green kale, the one usually found everywhere, they will be perfect as well.
I’ll reveal in the recipe my little trick to make them so crispy without oil, and we haven’t added any salt or spices, so they are really pure.

Ingredients for Kale Chips in Microwave
- 10.6 oz kale
- 1 egg white
Preparation Kale Chips in Microwave
Gently detach the kale leaves at the base, wash and gently dry them with a cloth.
Then remove the central vein and cut them into irregular pieces, not too small.
For each kale leaf, we obtained 4 or 5 pieces (always from the larger outer leaves).
Brush each kale piece with egg white, place them on the microwave turntable covered with absorbent paper.
Set to maximum power (in my case 900 watts) then start the microwave for 2 minutes.
Flip the kale chips and cook for another 2 minutes. Keep in mind if the pieces are small, the minutes should be less, otherwise they burn.
Once ready, remove them from the microwave, place them on a tray and let them rest a few minutes before enjoying them.
If you have a microwave with a CRISP plate, preheat it for 2 minutes in crisp function then place the kale chips.
Always use Crisp function for 2 minutes, flip them and check, if they are too soft prolong the cooking for another 2 minutes.
If they are almost ready, set only 1 minute.
Remove them from the microwave, let them rest for a couple of minutes before enjoying them.
To cook them in the oven or fryer, place them on a baking sheet or in the fryer basket, trying to make 2 layers, no more.
Bake in a preheated oven with fan at 340°F for 10 minutes then flip them and continue for another 4 or 5 minutes.
In the fryer, cook at 320°F for 7 minutes then toss them and cook for another 3 minutes.
Always let the Kale Chips rest by placing them on a tray or serving dish so they get air and dry further.
Tips and Variations
Kale chips should be eaten immediately, otherwise they lose their crispness.
If you prefer, you can season them before cooking with salt and spices to taste without forgetting the egg white.
You can use any type of kale you like.
