The Puff Pastry Breadsticks with Salmon are an excellent appetizer always, but particularly suitable for Christmas Eve dinner. I usually serve them with an aperitif, but they are also great as a tasty appetizer. I must say that children usually love them, and honestly, one leads to another. With only three ingredients, you can prepare a delicious recipe in very little time and very simply. As for the cheese, there isn’t a super recommended one, because the important thing is that it melts well with heat, to bind everything together. The egg and poppy seeds are just for decoration, and if desired they can be omitted or substituted with whatever you prefer.
For the procedure, I made a small video, which you can watch on the pages of Facebook Instagram and Pinterest

How to prepare Puff Pastry Breadsticks with Salmon
To prepare Puff Pastry Breadsticks with Salmon, organize your workspace with the necessary tools and ingredients already measured.
This way you’ll have everything at hand, making your work simpler and faster.
Roll out the puff pastry and divide it exactly in half, because they will need to match well.
On one half, spread out the melting cheese of your choice, but make sure it’s coarsely grated beforehand.
Lay the smoked salmon slices evenly on top, and then cover with the other half of the puff pastry.
Press lightly, and then with a knife, from the shorter side, cut strips about 0.6 inches wide.
If you cut along the longer side, you will surely get fewer, but don’t worry because if needed, you can always cut them in half.
Depending on the size, you should get 13/14, but in any case, it will all depend on you.
Once the strips are ready, take one at a time and twist them on themselves, like a spiral.
Arrange them on a tray lined with parchment paper, brush them with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
Bake in a preheated oven at 392°F, and let them cook for about 20 minutes, or until they are golden.
Serve your Puff Pastry Breadsticks with Salmon hot or at room temperature, because they are delicious both ways.
Tips, Variants, and Storage
Leftover breadsticks can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, but the other option is to freeze them.
This way they will last longer, and you will just need to reheat them when ready to serve.
You can also freeze them raw, but always remember that food should always be defrosted in the fridge.
