Mummified Meatballs

The Mummified Meatballs are very cute to bring to the table for Halloween dinner, and they will surely be very appreciated not only by children.

Delicate yet flavorful, they are always a hit.

I’ve been making them for several years for this occasion, but I had never created a recipe to publish.

The ingredients are not many, and easy to find, the preparation is very simple, but the process requires a bit more time.

For this reason, you can prepare the mixture in advance, and wrap them in puff pastry only at the last moment.

If you don’t like the type of meat I’ve proposed, you can always opt for chicken or turkey.

You can find the video recipe on the pages Facebook Instagram and  Pinterest

  • to taste salt

  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Pizza cutter
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Pan
  • 1 Brush

How to Prepare Mummified Meatballs

To prepare the Mummified Meatballs, as always, organize your workspace with all the ingredients already measured.

This way, you will have everything at hand, and your work will be much simpler.

Cut the pumpkin slice in half, and place it inside a baking tray previously lined with parchment paper.

Bake in a preheated oven at 392°F, and let cook for about 40 minutes or until it softens.

Once cooked, turn off the oven and let it cool, leaving it in the oven but with the door open.

Once ready, clean it and put the pulp directly into a large bowl, where you will also add the mixed ground beef and pork.

Add the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped spring onion, breadcrumbs, egg, and mix well with your hands all the ingredients.

Form meatballs and place them on a waiting plate one by one.

In a large non-stick pan, pour the extra virgin olive oil and brown all the meatballs.

Return them to the plate and let them cool completely before working with them.

Spread out the puff pastry sheet, and with the help of a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut strips about 1/2 inch wide.

Take a strip and starting from the bottom, begin wrapping it around the meatball, a bit diagonally.

Leave a gap open and wrap it also on the top, representing the skull.

Roll two small pieces of dough to form the eyes, press them lightly, and put them in the gap left open.

Continue in this way until all the meatballs are done, then place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Beat an egg yolk and using a silicone brush, brush it over all the meatballs so they acquire a nice golden color.

Bake again at 392°F, preheated oven, and let cook for about 15 minutes: enough time for the puff pastry to cook and turn golden.

Serve your Mummified Meatballs only after letting them cool for 5 minutes.

They are also delicious at room temperature.

Advice

Wrap the puff pastry around the meatballs only when they are well cooled, otherwise it won’t be easy to work with.

You can keep the mummified meatballs in the fridge for one or two days, either cooked or uncooked.

For longer storage, freeze them.

If you want to get ahead for Halloween dinner, you can certainly prepare them well in advance.
