The Medicinal and Fragrant Bay Leaf Herbal Tea was a godsend for me last Sunday. I tried it for the first time due to a colon colic, avoiding a trip to the emergency room as had happened before. The properties of bay leaf are numerous: painkiller, anti-inflammatory, digestive, expectorant in case of phlegm and not only, because it is so fragrant that its use in cooking is widespread. Even the Romans and Greeks used it to preserve food: they wrapped food in fresh bay leaves because they were medicinal, whether cooked or raw. Besides for its beneficial properties, it is pleasant to drink just to quench your thirst, and in this case, I recommend it at room temperature.
I leave you the recipes of other truly delicious drinks.
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Very economical
- Preparation time: 5 Minutes
- Portions: 1 quart
- Cooking methods: Boiling
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 1 quart water
- 6 leaves bay leaf
- to taste honey or sugar
Tools
- Saucepan
- strainer
Preparation
Take 6 large bay leaves, wash them well, dry them, and tear them into pieces with your hands, as this will help release all their medicinal properties better.
Place them inside a kettle or saucepan with 1 quart of cold water, turn on the heat, and as soon as the water starts to boil, count 5 minutes of cooking.
Turn off the heat, let it cool slightly, and if necessary, strain the liquid with a strainer to hold back the leaves.
Meanwhile, wash a lemon, dry it, and slice it. The lemon is not necessary, but it will flavor your drink this way.
Pour the tea into a cup, pass it through a strainer if the leaves in the glass bother you, and sweeten it with honey, sugar, or even enjoy it as is, because it’s not only curative but also very tasty and fragrant.
Drink your Medicinal and Fragrant Bay Leaf Herbal Tea as needed or as a delicious and refreshing beverage. It is excellent both hot and at room temperature.
Tips and storage:
If you need it to soothe pain or aid digestion, you can prepare a larger quantity and store it in a glass bottle in the refrigerator.
This way it will keep for a few days without any problem.
