Pizzaiola Potatoes

in

Why are they called this way? Maybe because they visually remind us of pizza, but honestly, I never saw a great resemblance. The only justification for this name is that tomato and cheese are used on top.

Aside from all that, there’s only one question, are they good? The answer is absolutely yes! And then another question might be, are they easy to prepare? Again, the answer is certainly!

So what do you need to make these fantastic pizzaiola potatoes at home? Just a bit of time, about an hour, and a few ingredients to enjoy a delicious and very appetizing side dish or appetizer.

Ingredients

To prepare pizzaiola potatoes

  • 2.2 lbs potatoes
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • 14 oz tomato pulp
  • 1 onion
  • 5 oz primo sale cheese

Tools

  • Oven
  • Bowls
  • Knives
  • Potato Peeler
  • Baking Tray

Steps

To prepare pizzaiola potatoes

  • First, peel the potatoes and rinse them under running water before slicing them. At this stage, I suggest preheating the oven to 350°F

  • Next, slice the potatoes into approximately 1/4 inch thick slices and place them in a large bowl

  • Then, drizzle with oil and salt and mix well to coat all slices

  • At this point, pour the tomato pulp into another bowl and season it with a drizzle of oil and salt, then mix well

  • For the next step, take the onion, cut it in half, and then slice it into approximately 1/4 inch thick slices

  • Finally, add the sliced onion into the bowl with the tomato pulp and mix everything gently

  • Next, place the potatoes on a baking tray and pour over the prepared seasoning

  • We’re at the point of placing the tray in the preheated oven at 350°F for 50 minutes

  • Meanwhile, take the primo sale cheese and slice it to use later

  • After the potatoes are done cooking, take the tray out of the oven and cover the entire surface with cheese

  • To finish, return the tray to the oven for just 5 minutes, the time needed to melt the cheese

  • Finally, turn off the oven and remove the tray, letting the potatoes rest for about 30 minutes before serving

Tip!

Instead of primo sale cheese, you can use alternative cheeses and, of course, mozzarella. For a bolder flavor, season the pulp with oregano and pepper.
