Storage
Catanese onions can be stored for one day at room temperature, but they will lose their crispness. It is best to consume them freshly baked.
Advice
For preparing Sicilian onions, I recommend not using another type of onion as you will not achieve the same result.
You can add various cold cuts to the filling: cooked ham, raw ham, mortadella, etc.
You can brush Sicilian onions with an egg to make them shinier.
You can replace sesame seeds with poppy seeds or omit them entirely.
