Storage
Since alcohol acts as a preservative, I recommend consuming the rum candied chestnuts within 6 months.
Advice
To sweeten the rum candied chestnuts, you can make the syrup with 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 1/4 cup of honey.
You can add other spices like: cinnamon, cloves, star anise, etc.
Instead of boiling the chestnuts, you can use roasted chestnuts.
