Refreshing turmeric drink

CITRUS FRUITS to choose from

As an alternative to grapefruit, you can use: pomelo, orange, clementines, or mandarins.

If using a more acidic or sour citrus (lemon, bergamot, kumquat, limequat), it’s better to reduce the juice to a maximum of 10 grams and dilute the drink with more water.

  • 2.5 oz grapefruit juice (about half – or another citrus fruit of your choice)
  • Half teaspoon turmeric powder (or fresh and grated)
  • 1 pinch black pepper (or fenugreek – freshly ground)
  • 0.11 oz agave syrup (or another vegetable syrup, or whole raw sugar "mascobado" – vegetarians can use honey)
  • 3.5 oz water (still or sparkling)

For a different aroma, try adding a pinch of cinnamon, vanilla, Tonka bean, or long pepper.

DIY Turmeric Drink

  • Use a citrus juicer, manual or electric, to prepare the grapefruit juice or your preferred seasonal citrus.

In a glass, pour half a teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper (essential to improve the bioavailability of curcumin), along with a small amount of syrup or sugar, to taste. Then add the water and stir well to dissolve the spices. Briefly heat the mixture in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stove: heat helps activate the properties of curcumin.
Let it cool slightly and complete the drink by adding the juice of a citrus of your choice for a touch of freshness. Stir well and serve.

Drink the turmeric beverage immediately and stir if necessary before sipping.
