Nutella Shortbread Rolls

Delicious and addictive, Nutella shortbread rolls are incredibly easy to make. They are crunchy on the outside with a super indulgent and creamy filling. I’ve made them with Nutella, but you can easily prepare them with jam or custard. With the same dough, you can also make a tart, and one of my favorites is the lemon cream tart. Perfect for breakfast with a good cup of milk, they are also great to end a lunch or dinner on a sweet note, or to break up the afternoon with a super indulgent treat. You can prepare the shortbread dough in advance and use it the next day if you’re short on time, or if you want to spend as little time as possible, you can easily use ready-made and pre-rolled shortbread dough, in which case they’ll be ready in no time. Let’s get to work and prepare the Nutella shortbread rolls together.

Preparation

  • In a bowl, place the cold butter or at room temperature in small pieces. Add the sifted flour and sugar. Incorporate the eggs, salt, and vanilla or grated lemon zest. Quickly work the dough with your fingertips until you have a smooth and compact ball. Wrap it with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 20 minutes.

  • After the resting time, roll out the dough as thinly as possible by placing it between two sheets of lightly floured parchment paper or using a bit of flour. Spread Nutella over the dough.

  • With the help of the parchment paper, roll the dough to form a log. Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C), bake, and cook for about 20 minutes. With a knife, cut into slices about an inch thick and let cool before serving.

Storage

The rolls can be stored for a few days in a tin box.
