How to prepare the no-bake Nutella cream for cake filling

To prepare the no-bake Nutella cream, start by chilling the bowl and beaters in the freezer for about ten minutes before whipping the cream: this will help it whip faster; it is also important that the cream is very cold, so take it out of the refrigerator only a few moments before whipping it. The Nutella should not be too hard, or you will have difficulty incorporating it into the whipped cream; therefore, in winter, when it tends to harden due to the cold, it is advisable to soften it by keeping the closed jar in warm water for 5 minutes, or by microwaving the necessary amount for 5 seconds, until it becomes fluid again. Caution: it should not be too hot or it will deflate the cream.
Then pour the cream into the bowl (1) and whip it with the electric beaters for a few minutes, until it becomes firm (2). To test the whipping, turn the bowl upside down: the cream should not move or slide, but stay firmly attached to the sides and bottom of the bowl. At this point, add half of the Nutella (3).
Using a spatula, gently fold it into the cream with slow movements from bottom to top (4), being careful not to deflate the cream. Once well combined, add the remaining Nutella (5) and continue to incorporate it in the same way, gently and from bottom to top, until you obtain a homogeneous mixture (6).
Let the Nutella cream firm up in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before using it to fill your desserts.
Storage
You can store the Nutella cream in the refrigerator for a couple of days.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Can Nutella cream be used for decorating?
No, it doesn’t have the right consistency to hold a decoration made with a pastry bag, for example. For this type of use, it’s better to prepare a chocolate frosting.
What syrup to use with this cream?
You can make a rum syrup using this recipe, or for cakes intended for children, a milk syrup or a cocoa syrup.
What cream to pair with Nutella cream?
If you are making a two-layer cake, you can pair this cream with a white chocolate Namelaka cream (also great for covering and decorating), or a diplomatic cream or even a mascarpone cream.
Can I use it to make a Nutella tart?
This cream is not suitable for baking, so you can use it to fill a pre-baked shortcrust shell (blind baking), but not a classic tart that goes in the oven. To make a Nutella tart that stays soft after baking, follow all the tips from this recipe.
