Christmas Angel Placeholders …or rather big-headed angel placeholders ha ha!
Yes, okay, I know I could have done them better, I could have made heads not of 33 grams of sugar paste but of 28, but sorry since I’m not very skilled but I ABSOLUTELY wanted to put this idea on the blog, I went ahead with the creation, photos and publication of the ice cream cones decorated with royal icing and with buttery cookies wings and here are these big heads made with the ice cream cone!
I made pseudo wings with shortcrust pastry using a pre-made roll and a cookie cutter, then I prepared a little icing with powdered sugar and, fiddling with a pastry bag, created this masterpiece that a primary school child would do better ha ha!
There are no placeholders worthy of this name on the blog since here I focus or rather my passion is cooking, but thinking about Christmas we can also make them with THESE
or make this one below made a long time ago at the beginning of this my cooking blog!
The ice cream cones I used, I personally bought at the ice cream parlor where I often go for breakfast because unfortunately I couldn’t find them at the supermarket!
The ice cream cones can be “glued” with the powdered sugar icing on round cookies and placed at every spot at the table for our guests!

- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Rest time: 1 Hour
- Portions: as you like
- Cooking methods: No cooking
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Winter
Ingredients
- 1 ice cream cone
- 33 g sugar paste (white for the little head)
- 3 sugary decorations (heart-shaped)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (heaping)
- 5 drops lemon juice (or water … you might need A LITTLE MORE, DON'T MAKE THE ICING TOO HARD OR TOO FLUID)
- 1 teaspoon sugar sprinkles
- 1 roll shortcrust pastry (which will clearly serve to make MANY ANGEL PLACEHOLDER WINGS)
Tools
#ADV
- baking paper
- baking trays
Steps
1) For these little objects, I prepare the cookies using cookie cutters or making homemade shapes or using a glass.
2) I place the baked wings on the baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 374°F for about 7-8 minutes or according to the characteristics of your appliance.
3) In the meantime, I prepare the icing by putting powdered sugar in a small container, a glass is fine too, and adding the lemon juice or water little by little, stirring vigorously to create the sweet icing sauce.
4) Once cooled, I cover the angel placeholder wings completely with the icing and let them solidify for about 30 minutes.
5) Meanwhile, I can make “the buttons” and the cone’s bottom by covering them with icing or creating a personal decoration, and gradually sprinkle with colored sugar decorations. I glue the wings with royal icing to the “body” of the Christmas angel placeholder.
6) I make balls of sugar paste, trying to smooth them well, better than mine anyway, and in one part I make a small hole with a skewer to facilitate insertion into the tip of the ice cream cone to make the head.
7) Anyway, I stop here because it’s easier to do this by looking at the picture than to write every single step in detail…
Merry Christmas and have fun with these homemade and edible placeholders!
