Microwave Boiled Potatoes

Potato recipes are always among the most delicious and satisfying.

Gnocchi, mashed potatoes, potato parmigiana are some of my all-time favorites. Even those beautiful and colorful potato salads are always present in my menus.

But most of them require lengthy boiling, which we often don’t have the time or desire to do.

What do we do? Give up? NOT A CHANCE.

So here I am, with a few tricks to have boiled potatoes ready in just a few minutes, by cooking them in the microwave.

Ingredients

  • 1.1 lbs potatoes
  • 0.42 cups water

Tools for microwave boiled potatoes

The tools here are essential to ensure a great result for microwave boiled potatoes. Besides the oven (obviously), you’ll need a container and microwave-safe plastic wrap.

  • 1 Microwave oven microwave oven
  • 1 Container Microwave container
  • 1 Plastic wrap Microwave plastic wrap

Procedure for microwave boiled potatoes

  • Depending on the recipe we need them for, we can cook the potatoes either whole with skin or peeled and cut. Of course, the cooking times will differ.

    Remember that in both cases they should be similar in size or cut into very similar shapes, whether cubes or slices.

    For whole potatoes: Wash the potatoes well under running water and place them in a microwave-safe container. Fill with two fingers of water and cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap.

    Cook in the microwave at 700 watts for 10 minutes.

    For cut potatoes: peel the potatoes and cut them into slices or cubes of equal size. Place them in a microwave-safe container and fill with two fingers of water. Cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap, poking a few holes.

    Cook in the microwave at 800 watts for 7 minutes.
