PORRIDGE recipe with CREAM topping
We’ve learned it by now, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us the right energy and strength to face the various tasks.
Today I present to you this recipe for an Oat Flakes, Milk, and Greek Yogurt Breakfast, a sort of Porridge that is prepared in no time, rich in energy and flavor.
A nice cup of this dessert of Anglo-Saxon origins and we will be ready to face the day’s challenges whether in the office, at school, at home for housework, or, for those who can afford it, to be tourists in villages and cities.
For those who don’t know, Overnight Porridge is a variant of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that does not require cooking, perfect therefore for those who have little time or don’t feel like cooking. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the refrigerator for a night, and in the morning it is ready to be enjoyed with the topping of your choice.
An extremely easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored as desired with vanilla and sweetened with honey. Once the mixture is mixed, there will be no need to cook it, it will simply be placed in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Once ready, you will only have to choose whether to layer it or not with yogurt of your preferred taste, spreadable creams, and garnish it with the Topping because there are endless possibilities all delicious.
In today’s recipe, I created a first layer with the Porridge, a second layer with Vanilla Greek Yogurt, and finished with a topping half of Classic Custard and half with Chocolate Custard homemade that I had left over from making a cake, because in the kitchen nothing goes to waste.
You’ll see how this simple breakfast will satiate you without weighing you down too much, for a long time and you’ll get to lunch without that annoying sense of hunger.
And if during the day you feel peckish or even in the evening after dinner you want to indulge in a dessert, this cup of Porridge also called OVERNIGHT OATS will be perfect.
What are you waiting for then? Let’s start preparing it together!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR PORRIDGE RECIPE

  • 1/2 cup oat flakes
  • 1/2 cup water (or plant-based milk or cow's milk)
  • 1 tsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 4 1/4 oz Greek yogurt 0% fat
  • 3 1/2 oz Greek yogurt 0% fat (with vanilla)
  • 1 1/4 oz custard cream (or vanilla dessert)
  • 1 1/4 oz custard cream (chocolate or chocolate dessert)

Tools

  • Bowl
  • 2 Cups

HOW TO MAKE OVERNIGHT PORRIDGE

  • In a bowl, mix together oat flakes, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or other plant-based beverage) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single-serving cup and place in the fridge for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  • After resting and before consuming, finish the preparation. Create a second layer with Vanilla Greek Yogurt, smoothing it with the back of a spoon. As the last layer, use the two Custard Creams, the classic one and the chocolate one, or just one of the two, or a vanilla or chocolate protein pudding/cream. Smooth with the back and decorate with a mint leaf or some crushed walnuts or toasted hazelnuts.

NOTES

WATER To have an even creamier porridge you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based beverage (soy, almond, oats, rice).

HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener for a light version.

VANILLA It’s incredible how a pinch of this essence can improve the taste of your Porridge, but if you don’t like this spice you can omit it.

OVERNIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and the oats to soften to the perfect consistency.

CLASSIC and CHOCOLATE CUSTARD: If you don’t have time or desire to make it, you can buy it already prepared in the supermarket or replace it with a vanilla or chocolate dessert (also protein creams) found in the fridge section.

STORAGE

The Overnight Oats PORRIDGE with Classic and CHOCOLATE Custard can be prepared the night before for the next day; in fact, it will be even better. Once ready, it can be stored in the fridge in a closed container for up to 2 days.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • How can I achieve the right consistency of Oat Flakes?

Achieving the perfect consistency of the oats is all about the oats/liquid ratio. Generally, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a bit more liquid; conversely, if they are too runny, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water next time.

  • How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and toppings to the Oat Flakes?

Overnight Oats Oat Flakes, in the case of some combinations (for example with hazelnut or pistachio cream), may be too sweet. Keep this in mind when deciding how to layer it and taste a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

  • Can I warm up my Overnight Oats Porridge or should it be eaten cold?

Overnight Oats Porridge is traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer it warm, you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave
