When you have ground meat available, you almost always think of making a delicious ragù, perhaps for a baked pasta or tasty meatballs that everyone loves!
Of course, these aren’t the only solutions for using ground meat; we can explore many other equally good and enticing alternatives. Today, in fact, I propose a truly top-notch preparation in terms of taste and creativity.
Imagine enjoying a pizza in a pan with a meat base instead of dough. An idea that can be great for many occasions, lunch or dinner, or for a special event or holiday.
The preparation is quite simple and fast and doesn’t require any special skills or ingredients. In this version with tomato, salami, and smoked scamorza, I decided to cook in an 8L air fryer where I put the baking dish inside, saving time compared to classic oven cooking.

Ingredients
For the ground meat pizzaiola
- 1/2 onion
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- 14 oz canned tomatoes
- to taste salt
- 14 oz ground beef
- to taste grated parmesan cheese
- to taste breadcrumbs
- 6 slices salami
- 1 smoked scamorza cheese

Steps
To prepare the ground meat pizzaiola
Start by chopping the onion and then sauté it in a small pan with the extra virgin olive oil
Then add the canned tomatoes and let them flavor for a few minutes
Next, season with salt and, if desired, a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes
Cover and simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes until the sauce reduces
Meanwhile, place the ground meat in a bowl, then add parmesan, breadcrumbs, and salt. Mix everything with your hands to create a dough
Next, take a small baking dish and spread the seasoned ground meat evenly across the base to form an even layer
Then place the salami slices on top, followed by the cooked and well-reduced tomato sauce
Finish the assembly by placing sliced smoked scamorza on top, covering the entire surface
Finally, place in the air fryer for 25 minutes at 302°F and frequently check the cooking progress
Finally, take out your baking dish and let it rest for about 15 minutes before serving
Tip!
Make sure to reduce the tomato sauce very well, as too much liquid could compromise the final result of the dish.
