OVERNIGHT OATS PORRIDGE PISTACHIO AND CHOCOLATE
By now we’ve learned it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us the right energy and the strength necessary to tackle the various tasks.
Today I present this recipe for a Breakfast of Oat Flakes, Milk, and Greek Yogurt, a sort of Porridge that is prepared in no time at all, rich in energy and taste, the OVERNIGHT OATS PORRIDGE PISTACHIO AND CHOCOLATE.
A nice cup of this dessert of Anglo-Saxon origin and we will be ready to face the challenges of the day, whether in the office, at school, at home for housework, or, for those who can afford it, to be tourists in villages and cities.
For those who don’t know, Overnight Porridge is a variant of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that doesn’t require cooking, perfect for those who have little time or don’t feel like cooking. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the refrigerator overnight, and when you wake up it is ready to be enjoyed with the topping you prefer.
An easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed together with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored as desired with vanilla, and sweetened with honey. Once the mixture is mixed there will be no need to cook it, it will simply be placed in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
You can also watch the video inside the recipe to follow each step, even though I assure you it is really very easy and I am sure you won’t need it.
Once ready, you’ll only have to choose whether to layer it or not with yogurt of your favorite taste, spreadable creams, and garnish it with the Topping you prefer because there are endless delicious possibilities.
In today’s recipe, I created a first layer with the Porridge, a second by mixing Greek Yogurt with Pistachio Cream, which with its sweetness perfectly balances the creaminess and slight acidity of the yogurt. It would already be delicious like this, but I wanted to exaggerate by creating a Dark Chocolate Topping garnished with some toasted pistachio.
You’ll see how this simple breakfast will satiate you, without weighing you down too much, for a long time and you’ll arrive at lunch without that annoying feeling of hunger.
And if during the day you feel peckish or even in the evening after dinner you want to treat yourself to a dessert, this bowl of Porridge, also called OVERNIGHT OATS, with Yogurt, Pistachio, and Chocolate will be perfect.
What are you waiting for, let’s start preparing it together!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup oat flakes
- 1/2 cup water (or other plant-based milk or cow's milk)
- 1 tsp honey (or maple syrup)
- 1/2 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1/3 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp pistachio cream
- 2 tbsp dark chocolate
- 1/2 tsp coconut oil (or sunflower oil)
- toasted pistachios (for decoration)
Tools
- Bowl
- 2 Cups
Steps
In a bowl, mix together oat flakes, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or another plant-based beverage) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single-serving cup and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
After resting and before consuming, complete the preparation. Melt the pistachio cream in the microwave for a few seconds, then put it in a bowl with the Yogurt and mix until combined. Spread a layer over the Porridge and level with the back of a spoon.
Melt the chocolate together with the coconut oil in the microwave or in a bain-marie. Pour it over the Pistachio Yogurt then decorate as desired with toasted Pistachios or Pistachio granules. Put in the fridge to set for 5 minutes. Enjoy your breakfast!
NOTES
WATER For an even creamier porridge, you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based drinks (soy, almond, oat, rice).
HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener for a light version.
PISTACHIO CREAM: If you don’t particularly like its flavor, you can replace it with any other type of spreadable hazelnut cream or fruit jam. Alternatively, you can buy Pistachio flavored Yogurt directly.
VANILLA It’s incredible how a pinch of this essence can enhance the flavor of your Porridge, but if you don’t like this spice you can omit it.
OVERNIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and the oats to soften to the perfect consistency.
STORAGE
The OVERNIGHT OATS Porridge with Yogurt, Pistachio, and Chocolate can be prepared the night before for the next day; in fact, it will be even better. Once ready, it can be stored in the fridge, closed in a container, for up to 2 days.
FAQ (Questions and Answers)
How can I get the right consistency of Oat Flakes with the Pistachio cream?
To get the perfect consistency of the oats, it’s all about the oats/liquid ratio. Generally, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too dense, add a bit more liquid; conversely, if they are too liquid, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water next time.
How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and the topping to the Oat Flakes?
The Overnight Oats may be too sweet, especially with certain pairings (such as hazelnut or pistachio cream). Keep this in mind when layering it and possibly taste a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
Can I heat my Overnight Oats Porridge or should it be eaten cold?
The Overnight Oats Porridge is traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer it warm, you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave
