Preparation for the Christmas Star Tart with Hazelnut Cream
For the preparation of the Christmas star tart start with the base, first prepare the shortcrust pastry.
The dough can be made by hand in a bowl or with a simple kitchen robot or stand mixer. In the bowl of the stand mixer or the bowl, put the sugar with the slightly softened butter cut into pieces, work the ingredients for a few minutes using speed 2, add the egg, the grated orange zest, and then the sifted flour and baking powder.
Work the dough quickly and mix the ingredients well. Pour it onto a work surface, compact the dough by hand, form a ball, and put it in the fridge to chill for about 15-20 minutes.
Take the shortcrust pastry from the fridge with the help of a rolling pin roll it out on a sheet of parchment paper, into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.
Place on a baking sheet or other tray. With the leftover dough, make star-shaped cookies.Make 8 cuts on the edge, with a pizza cutter or knife as shown in the attached photo.
Fill the pastry with hazelnut spread, place a hazelnut on each cut, then pull the two edges and join them to form a triangle, do the same with the other edges, close well by pressing with your fingers.Once all the star’s tips are made proceed with the cuts in the center.
Make another 8 cuts that go from the center of the shortcrust pastry to 3/4 inch from the star’s tip, cutting between the two previous cuts, as in the photo.Add another hazelnut in each flap or slice, bring the tip towards the outside between the 2 triangles covering the hazelnut.
Decorate further with granules and more hazelnuts. Place a small star of leftover dough on each triangle.Bake the Christmas star tart in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 25 minutes. Adjust according to your oven’s temperature, remove from oven when it is golden brown.
Let it cool then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Serve on a serving plate!
