YOGURT AND OAT FLAKES (OVERNIGHT OATS PORRIDGE) COOKIES FLAVOR
Today I present to you this recipe for a Breakfast of Oat Flakes, Milk, and Greek Yogurt, a kind of Porridge that is prepared in no time, full of energy and taste, the COOKIES FLAVORED OVERNIGHT OATS, the famous American cookies with chocolate chips.
A nice cup of this Anglo-Saxon origin dessert and we will be ready to face the challenges of the day whether in the office, at school, at home for household chores or, for those who can afford it, to be tourists in villages and cities.
For those who don’t know, the Overnight Porridge is a variant of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that does not require cooking, perfect for those who have little time or don’t feel like cooking. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the fridge for a night and upon waking up it is ready to be enjoyed with the topping of your choice.
It’s a very easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored as desired with vanilla, and sweetened with honey. Once the mixture is mixed, there will be no need to cook it, it will simply need to be placed in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Once ready, you will only have to choose whether to layer it with your favorite yogurt, spread creams, and garnish it with your preferred Topping because there are endless possibilities all delicious.
In today’s recipe of OVERNIGHT OATS COOKIES FLAVOR, I created a first layer with the Porridge, a second made from vanilla Greek yogurt to which I added chocolate chips, and I finished decorating with a crumbled cookie and some more chocolate chips.
You will see how this simple breakfast will fill you up, without weighing you down too much, for a long time, and you will reach lunch without that annoying feeling of hunger.
And if during the day you get cravings or even in the evening after dinner you want to indulge in a dessert this cup of Porridge OVERNIGHT OATS with yogurt, chocolate cookies flavor.
What are you waiting for, then let’s start preparing it together!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oat flakes
  • 1/2 cup water (or plant-based milk or cow's milk)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • 4.2 oz 0% fat Greek yogurt
  • 2.5 oz yogurt (vanilla)
  • 0.35 oz chocolate chips
  • 2 chocolate cookie
  • chocolate chips (for decoration)

Tools

  • Bowl
  • 2 Cups

Steps

  • In a bowl, mix together the oat flakes, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or other plant-based milk) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single-serving cup and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  • After resting and before consuming, finish the preparation. Put the vanilla yogurt in a bowl and add the chocolate chips, stir to combine. Pour everything over the oat layer and level with the back of a spoon.

  • Decorate with chocolate chips and ½ crumbled cookie, use the other half also for decoration by slightly sinking it into the porridge. Finish with some chocolate chips. Your Overnight Cookies Porridge is ready, taste it and you will see it will remind you in taste of the famous American Cookies.

NOTES

WATER To have an even creamier porridge, you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based milk (soy, almond, oat, rice).

HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener, for a light version.

VANILLA It’s amazing how a pinch of this essence can improve the taste of your Porridge but if you don’t like this spice you can omit it.

YOGURT: For the second layer I used vanilla Greek yogurt but a vanilla protein dessert is also fine

CHOCOLATE CHIPS: In the recipe, they are dark chocolate but milk ones will be fine too. If you don’t already have them at home, you can also simply use a chocolate bar and with a knife cut it into very small pieces.

COOKIES: To fully recall the flavor of these famous American cookies I recommend not giving up on the topping and adding 1 per serving. You just need to divide it in half, crumble the first half on the surface and use the other half as decoration.

NIGHT REST: Leave the oats to rest in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and the oats to soften to the perfect consistency.

STORAGE

The COOKIES FLAVORED OVERNIGHT OATS Porridge can be prepared the night before for the next day, indeed it will be even tastier. Once ready, it keeps in the fridge closed in a container for up to 2 days.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • How can I get the right consistency of Oat Flakes?

To get the perfect consistency of oats it’s all about the oats/liquid ratio. Generally, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a bit more liquid; conversely, if it’s too liquid, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water the next time.

  • How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and toppings to the Oat Flakes?

Overnight Oats can be too sweet in some combinations (for example with hazelnut or pistachio cream). Keep this in mind when deciding how to layer it and consider tasting a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

  • Can I heat my Overnight Oats Porridge or should it be eaten cold?

Overnight Oats Porridge is traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer it hot, you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
